Cork Tango Society members dancing to our arrangements of tangos for string trio at the Montenotte Hotel, Cork
This week we played for Cork Argentine Tango Society's Christmas party at the Montenotte Hotel, Cork. They wanted a string trio to provide some live music that the Society members would be able to dance to, so we learned some tangos, waltzes and milongas for the partygoers to enjoy. There was a great turnout, and it was lovely to see everyone up and dancing as we played tunes by Carlos Gardel, Astor Piazzolla, Francisco Canaro and more. We had a fabulous time playing our arrangements of tango for string trio, and after we'd reached the end of our music we ended up repeating a few tunes everyone was enjoying themselves so much!
We were then treated to a fantastic performance by professional tango dancers Simona Zaino and Hernan Catvin. As it turned out, Sarah (our violist) had already accompanied these dancers when the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland performed a "Tango Extravaganza" for Valentine's weekend in 2010 under the direction of Fionnuala Hunt. Ms Hunt had arranged a collection of tangos for solo violin and string orchestra which she released on CD with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and we performed these live with Simona and Hernan - it was an unexpected surprise to cross paths again!
We are delighted that the Society have invited Here Comes The Trio back to perform at their annual Festival which takes place from the 11-14 April 2013. If it sounds like something you'd be interested in, they hold classes every Wednesday in the Metropole Hotel and milongas (social dances) every Sunday in the Montenotte Hotel.
